“We have had the chance to work on problem areas, which have mainly been defensive – both at the back and in midfield.

“As players we are not panicking yet, because there is still a long way to go. But that does also not mean we are taking our poor start lightly – we realise we need to start picking up points quickly,” he admitted. Under former coach Manqoba Mngqithi, the KZN side gained a reputation as an easy-on-the-eye team, likened to the Sundowns team of the nineties for their carpet-football.

An emphasis was placed upon skilful, fast young players of KZN origin and the likes of Thamsanqua Gabuza, Russel Mlotshwa, Philane Shange, Njabulo Manqana and of course Bafana Bafana regular Thanduyise Khuboni stood out with some scintillating performances.
